Year 4 Learning in Term 4

Year 4 Learning in Term 4: Potions, Sound, and More!

As Term 4 comes to a close, Year 4 pupils have been immersed in a whirlwind of fascinating topics and exciting activities. From exploring the magical world of states of matter in the topic of Potions to diving into the science of sound, it’s been a term full of discovery, creativity, and hands-on learning. Here’s a look at what Year 4 has been up to this term!

Potions and States of Matter

This term, Year 4 explored the fascinating world of states of matter through the exciting theme of Potions. The children learned about solids, liquids, and gases, and how they change from one state to another. They had a blast experimenting with different materials, combining them to create their own "potions" as part of fun, interactive experiments. Whether it was mixing liquids or observing the fizz of a chemical reaction, the children loved engaging with science in such a hands-on way. It was a magical way to learn about scientific concepts while adding a little bit of wonder and excitement to their learning!

Sound – Exploring Vibrations and Waves

In addition to potions, Year 4 students also explored the science of sound. They learned how sound is made by vibrations and how those vibrations travel through air, water, and solids in waves. The children experimented with different objects and materials to create sounds and observed how the pitch and volume of sounds could change. From making their own instruments to investigating how sound travels through various objects, the children enjoyed discovering the science behind the sounds they hear every day.

World Book Day – A Day of Inspiration

This term also saw the celebration of World Book Day, a day filled with excitement and inspiration! Year 4 had the unique opportunity to meet Nina De La Mare, a real-life author, who shared her journey as a writer and inspired the children to explore their own creative writing. The children participated in a workshop with Nina, where they asked questions about writing books and gained valuable insights into the process of storytelling. This experience was truly unforgettable and sparked even more passion for reading and writing among the students.

Art Day with Local Artist Shane Record

Another fantastic event was Art Day, where the children were introduced to Shane Record, a local artist with a gallery in Folkestone. Shane demonstrated his artistic process by painting a local landscape scene in the school hall, and the children had the opportunity to watch his work come to life. After a lively Q&A session, the students returned to their classrooms to create their own artwork, inspired by the landscape they had observed. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to connect with a local artist and explore their own creativity, leaving them with a deeper appreciation for the arts.

Science Day – A World of Discovery

Year 4 students also had an action-packed Science Day, filled with hands-on experiments and activities designed to ignite their curiosity and deepen their understanding of the world around them. The children took part in exciting experiments that helped them discover scientific concepts in a fun and engaging way.

Class Assembly – Sharing Our Learning

One of the term’s highlights was the Class Assembly, where Year 4 proudly showcased everything they had learned over the past two terms. It was a proud moment for both the children and their families, as they celebrated the hard work, creativity, and collaboration that went into their learning.

Easter Hat Parade – A Springtime Tradition

To wrap up the term in style, Year 4 students took part in the annual Easter Hat Parade. With their unique, colourful, and creative hats, the children marched proudly around the school, sharing their creations with classmates and parents. It was a joyful occasion that brought the whole school together, and the perfect way to end an action-packed and rewarding term.

Looking Ahead

As we look forward to the next term, we can’t wait to see where the children’s curiosity and creativity will take them. Term 4 has been filled with exploration, experimentation, and plenty of fun, and we’re excited for the learning adventures still to come. Year 4’s passion for discovery and growth has been inspiring, and we look forward to continuing this exciting journey together!
