Year 4 Term 5 Blog: Misty Mountains and Winding Rivers
Term 5 has been a truly memorable one for Year 4 as we journeyed through the captivating topic of Misty Mountains and Winding Rivers. From the heights of the mountains to the mouth of a river, the children have explored the geography of landscapes, the science of water flow, and the beauty of nature—all while developing new skills and knowledge along the way.
An Immersive River Journey
One of the most exciting moments of the term was our immersive trip, where the children had the unique opportunity to walk from the source to the mouth of a river. This hands-on experience brought classroom learning to life as we traced the river’s journey.
Along the way, we observed how the river changed—starting as a small trickle and gradually growing into a powerful waterway. The children were fantastic at spotting features such as meanders, riverbanks, and even mini waterfalls! They loved using their fieldwork skills to record observations, take measurements, and sketch what they saw.
Not only did this trip deepen their understanding of physical geography, but it also sparked brilliant conversations and reflections back in the classroom.
In the Classroom
In our geography lessons, we explored:
· How mountains and rivers are formed
· The water cycle and how it connects to our environment
· Famous rivers around the world and their importance to human settlements
Sports Day Fun!
Another highlight of Term 5 was, of course, Sports Day! The sun was shining, spirits were high, and Year 4 showed fantastic teamwork, determination, and enthusiasm throughout the day. From sprints to obstacle races, and long jumps to relays, every child gave it their all and cheered on their friends.
It was lovely to see the whole school community coming together, with proud smiles from parents, teachers, and pupils alike. Congratulations to everyone who took part—you were amazing!
