Update: Year Three Term Four 2025
Year Three have just complete another busy term of learning. It has now finally brightened up and the children are able to get outside in the warmer weather. Let’s have a look at what they have been up to this term:
Term Four began with the topic ‘Rocks, Relics and Rumbles’. The children became geographers as the delved deep into the Earth’s layers to examine just what our planet looks like beneath the surface. They explored the concept of tectonic plates and how these contribute to such natural disasters as earthquakes, tsunamis and volcanic eruptions. The children also heard about the fascinating life of Mary Anning, and discovered how fossils are formed.
In English this term, the children have learnt about narrative (story) writing and recounts. They framed their narratives around some exciting escape stories written about the volcanic eruption that buried the city of Pompeii. Using Talk4Writing, the children were able to pick out the key features of narrative writing, ready to apply these to their own story writing. They wrote recounts based on their brilliant trip to Samphire Hoe.
In DT, the children were cooking this term. They explored the ideas behind healthy meal preparation and considered which foods were good for us and how we could make a slightly more unhealthy dinner better for us nutritionally. After the research and planning came the time to make their own pizzas, using a simple yoghurt and flour mix, before choosing their favourite toppings.
The children visited Samphire Hoe at the end of term to go fossil hunting and explore the amazing local attraction. They took part in a ranger-led tour of the site, where they were able to look for their own fossils and fool’s gold as well as taking time to explore more of the coastline on their own self-led adventure.
Overall, it’s been another brilliant term for Year Three, full of learning, creativity, and memorable experiences. The children have worked incredibly hard and have enjoyed every moment. We are all looking forward to Term Five and the new topic ‘Empires and Emperors’.
