Update: Year Three Term Five 2025
Year Three have reached the end of their penultimate term and despite it being so short (and full of Bank Holiday Monday’s!) it has been another busy one. So, let’s take a look at what they have been up to:
Term Five began with the topic ‘Emperors and Empires’. The children have been able to directly link their learning about the fall of the Iron Age to the Roman invasion of Britain. They began by learning about how rule in Rome started as a Kingdom, before moving onto a Republic and final an Empire as the Romans took over the world. The children have studied some of the most influential Emperors – learning that many of them were cruel and selfish. Roman life has shaped the way Britain is today, and the children explored what life was like in a Roman town and how their inventions and technologies are still found in the world today.
In English this term, the children have learnt about the features of persuasive writing – using these to write their own advert to encourage people to join Julius Caesar’s Roman army.
In Art, the children were very excited to create a classic piece of Roman decoration – mosaic tiles! Beginning with some research around how mosaic art was created and looking at some of the amazing examples that can still be seen today. The children then were able to plan out their own fantastic designs, before using ceramic pieces and grout to bring their creations to life. Once these were dry, the children were able to share their tiles with their friends, saying what they think went well and what could be improved.
This term, the children visited Richborough Roman Fort - linking to their history topic. This was a chance for the children to see first-hand evidence of the Roman presence in Britain, so close to where they live. We were lucky enough to have a fantastic guide who was able to share his extensive knowledge with the children and gave us the chance to handle some genuine Roman finds. The term ended with Sports Day, which thankfully just about avoided the rainy weather!
Overall, it’s been another brilliant term for Year Three, full of learning, creativity, and memorable experiences. The children have worked incredibly hard and have enjoyed every moment. We are all looking forward to Term Six and the ‘One Planet, Our World’ topic.
