Year 6 Term 1 Blog

Year 6 Blog – Term 1

What a fantastic start to Year 6 it has been! The children have thrown themselves into their learning this term with enthusiasm and curiosity, making it a brilliant beginning to their final year at primary school.

Our main topic has been Blood Heart, where the children have explored the fascinating world of the human body. They investigated how blood and the heart work and even created their own models using different materials to represent parts of blood. A highlight for many was the chance to dissect a real heart, where they could see for themselves how this incredible organ functions. To link with this, the children also enjoyed writing their own narratives, inspired by their scientific discoveries.

In art, the focus has been on how colour can be used to create mood and atmosphere, with some impressive and imaginative pieces produced. The children showed real creativity and thought in the way they used different techniques to express emotions and settings.

Of course, one of the most memorable experiences of the term was our residential week. The children demonstrated resilience, teamwork, and independence as they tackled a range of exciting challenges and activities. It was wonderful to see them supporting one another, making memories, and growing in confidence outside the classroom.

Overall, Term 1 has been packed with learning, creativity, and adventure. We are so proud of how Year 6 have settled into their new responsibilities as role models for the school and are looking forward to what Term 2 will bring!
