Term 4 News

Year 6, Term 4 Blog
What an inspiring term it has been in Year 6!

This term, our learning took us deep into the powerful and moving topic of Maafa. Through this topic, the children explored Africa’s history, the impact of the transatlantic slave trade, and colonisation. The children used historical vocabulary such as colonisation, enslavement, rebellion, and resistance, and showed great maturity and empathy when discussing these complex themes. Their written work has been thoughtful and reflective of their understanding.

Our RE lessons encouraged some deep reflection as we explored the big question: What do religions say to us when life gets hard? The children engaged sensitively with ideas around suffering, grief, and comfort, comparing how different religions respond to life’s challenges.

In PE, we completed lots of gymnastics lessons, where children worked individually and in groups to develop sequences using complex actions.

Art Day was a colourful success! The children enjoyed experimenting with different techniques and media, creating expressive and unique pieces related to Folkestone that they were proud to display.

We also had a fantastic Science Day, filled with hands-on experiments. It was brilliant to see our Year 6 scientists in action, applying their investigative skills and working together to explore the scientific world.

In Spanish, the children continued to build their conversational skills, describing where they live and talking about their families with increasing confidence. ¡Fantástico!

We’ve been so impressed by the children’s growing maturity this term. A big thank you to all our families for your continued support. We’re looking forward to a brilliant Term 5 as we head towards the KS2 SATs and the final stretch of Year 6!
