Term 2
We worked extremely hard to learn our Christmas nativity - which I think you can all agree was absolutely fantastic! We could not be any prouder of well the children performed.
We learnt about Diwali and the celebration surrounding this. We took part in henna art, making Diwi lamps, writing cards, and learning about the wonderful celebrations that happen. We compared Diwali celebrations to Christmas celebrations, looking at what was the same and what was different.
During our week on People who help us, we covered a different occupation each day. We learnt about the jobs that fire, police, nurses/doctors, dentists and vets do. We loved role-playing each occupation and finding out more about how they can help us - we even learnt what to do and who to ring in an emergency!
We read the stories 'Can't you Sleep Little Bear' and 'How to Catch a Star'. We created lanterns using junk modelling, learnt about circuits and how we can make a light bulb work, and explored the dark den to explore reflective materials and how shadows are made.
The children have been working hard in phonics, which they have been using during Literacy where they have been putting their new skills to work. They have even began to write simple sentences!
We have had a wonderful two weeks leading up to Christmas, where the children have written their own letters to Father Christmas, decorated the class Christmas trees, had a go at wrapping presents in our Santa’s workshop role play and most importantly, having fun while learning through play.
