Year Two have reached the end of their penultimate term and despite it being so short it has been another busy one. So, let’s take a look at what they have been up to:

 

Term Five began with the topic ‘Let’s Explore the World’. The children have been building on their prior Geography knowledge, using atlases to practice using the cardinal points to give directions. They have also explored the different climate zones, hot and cold places and the Equator. Closer to home, the children have learnt about the countries that make up the UK and considered some of the Human and Physical features that can be found in the UK.

 

In English this term, the children have learnt about the features of persuasive writing – using these to write their own arguments to share their reasons to care for the environment. They have also studied the features of instructional writing, creating their own set of instruction on how to plant a sunflower.

 

In science, the children have been investigating animal survival. They began by looking at different habitats and the things that animals need to survive. The children also learnt about lifecycles, considering the different reproductive processes that different species of animals use.

 

In DT, the children were very excited to turn their hand to food! Inspired by traditional deserts, the children researched different foods from around the world. After some very important taste testing, learning how to safely use tools to cut and slice, the children were able to create their own Eton Mess style desert. Once eaten, they were able to evaluate their products and suggest ways to improve the next batch.

 

This term, the children visited Kearsney Abbey - linking to their local area study. They took part in a fantastic River Dipping Workshop run by the White Cliffs Countryside Partnership. This was a well-deserved break after successfully completing their SATs tests. Unfortunately our Sports Day was rained off, so we are hoping to do this in the first week back of Term 6!

 

Overall, it’s been another brilliant term for Year Two, full of learning, creativity, and memorable experiences. The children have worked incredibly hard and have enjoyed every moment. We are all looking forward to Term Six and the ‘Coastline’ topic.
