Year 6 Term 2

Year 6 Blog - Term 2

What a busy and exciting term it has been for Year 6! The children have continued to approach their learning with maturity and curiosity as we have completed the Christmas term.

Our Discovery learning has focused on two topics: Light Theory in Science and our vibrant Hola Mexico theme. In science, the children explored how light travels, how shadows are formed, and how we see objects. They carried out practical investigations, made predictions, and tested scientific ideas with increasing confidence. Alongside this, our Mexico study brought colour, culture, and creativity into the classroom. Through geography, history, and art, the children explored Mexican landscapes, traditions and artwork—and our special Mexican Day was a brilliant celebration of everything they had learned.

In English, we studied Holes by Louis Sachar, a text that sparked fantastic discussions and deep thinking. The children produced detailed non-fiction fact files about a desert before moving on to writing their own engaging legends inspired by The Legend of the Cempasúchil. Their imaginations, vocabulary choices and growing independence as writers have been wonderful to see.

We have also enjoyed a range of special events that helped make this term feel truly festive. The children led a wonderful Year 6 assembly, demonstrating their speaking skills and growing leadership qualities. They also took part in our Christmas dinner, Christmas jumper day, Christmas craft sessions and the ever-popular quiz. A major highlight was our trip to the pantomime, which created lasting memories. The Christmas concert was another proud moment, showcasing the children’s musical talents and festive spirit.

Term 2 has been a celebration of learning, creativity and community. We are incredibly proud of the children’s achievements and the positive attitudes they continue to show every day. As we look ahead to the new year, we are excited for everything that Term 3 will bring!
