Year 4 Term One Blog – Invaders, Art and Autumn Fun! 🛡️🎨🎃

Year 4 have had a fantastic start to the school year, packed with exciting learning, creativity, and fun experiences. Our main topic this term was “Invasion”, with a strong focus on history — and we’ve truly enjoyed stepping back in time!

⚔️ History: Vikings and Anglo-Saxons

We travelled back over 1,000 years to learn all about the Vikings and Anglo-Saxons. From raiding and trading to settlements and daily life, we explored how these groups shaped Britain. One of the highlights was learning about how the Anglo-Saxons lived and how the Vikings arrived — and didn’t always leave!

🛶 Viking Ship Trip to Broadstairs

To bring our learning to life, we went on an exciting trip to Broadstairs, where we saw a replica Viking ship up close. Seeing the size and design of the ship helped us imagine what life would have been like for Viking explorers crossing the seas. It was an unforgettable experience!

🎨 Art: Exploring Colour

In art, we focused on the theme of colour. We learnt how artists use colour to express mood and emotion, and we experimented with mixing, shading, and creating different effects. Our art books are now full of vibrant, expressive artwork – we’re really proud of our creative progress!

💚 Wellbeing Day

This term, we also had a special Wellbeing Day, where we focused on looking after our minds and bodies. It was a great opportunity to slow down, reflect, and take part in calming, mindful activities. We even invited our parents in to see our fantastic work, and it was lovely to share our learning with them.

🎃 Halloween Disco

To finish the term in style, we dressed up and danced the evening away at the Halloween Disco! There were spooky costumes, games, music, and lots of fun had by everyone. It was a brilliant way to celebrate all our hard work.

 

What a brilliant first term Year 4 have had! From exploring the past to showing off our artistic talents, and enjoying time with friends and family, we’ve made a great start to the year. We can’t wait to see what Term Two brings!
