Year 6 Brompton Girls, Forest School (Term 1)
In our first session we discussed as a group what we would like to create in the woods to leave behind for other year groups to use in the future – something that would be our legacy. We decided upon a notice board. We scavenged the woods and Mr Gilmurray’s secret stash of wood to find suitable materials we could use. After a lick of paint, which mostly made it onto the board, and some careful measuring the board was ready for assembly.
However, that wasn’t all we did in our weeks outside: we peeled carrots, went on mini beast hunts, created homes, made leaf prints, made blackberry face masks, learnt about fire safety, safely used secateurs and knives to make bows and arrows and whittled sticks to toast marshmallows. We filled our time with lots of free play and learnt about the importance of teamwork, friendship and respecting each other. We showed we could be responsible and trustworthy.
