Year 6 Royal Girls, Forest School (Term 1)
In our first session we discussed as a group what we would like to create in the woods to leave behind for other year groups to use in the future – something that would be our legacy. We decided upon building a mud kitchen. We learnt how to safely use a bow saw and used this tool to cut wooden pallets to size. We also used a Laplander to cut the hole for the washing up bowl and a palm drill to attach the hooks for utensils. We were then able to explain to Mr Gilmurray exactly what was needed to attach the pieces together; he has finished this for us.
However, that wasn’t all we did in our weeks outside: we climbed trees, went on mini-beast hunts, peeled carrots, went blackberry picking, made leaf prints and blackberry smoothies, we made mini fires and learnt about fire safety, we had conker fights and we made our own slip and slide. Playing in the rain was definitely the most fun we had! We’ve thoroughly enjoyed our time outside and we’re disappointed it’s come to an end.
