Year 6 Royal Boys, Forest School in Term 1
Royal Boys
In our first session we discussed as a group what we would like to create in the woods to leave behind for other year groups to use in the future – something that would be our legacy. We decided upon building dens. Two dens were needed: a den built purely from sticks and leaf litter and one constructed from trees we felled using a Laplander and tarpaulin, using an A-frame design. Unfortunately our second den took a tumble once or twice, but we were determined not to let that ruin our WW2 inspired game of capture the flag to conclude our sessions in week 6.
However, that wasn’t all we did in our weeks outside: we went on mini beast hunts, we peeled carrots, made leaf prints, climbed trees, we learnt how to use bow saws and palm drills to make wooden badge discs and we toasted marshmallows. We thoroughly enjoyed our time outside and are disappointed it’s come to an end.
